There are two options for installing your lawn, seeds or sod. Sowing seeds is cheaper than compared to sod, but seed could take months become usable. You could go for sod if you need lawn sooner. If you choose sod make sure sod is moist and it does not contain cracks. Water your new lawn after installing, if you have sown the seeds, water your lawn lightly so that seeds do not wash away. Repeat watering of the plantation land daily until grass blades appear. This process takes time nearly 12-15 days after plantation. In case of sod, water heavily for the next 10 days after plantation till the soil under the sod gets wet.

Stay calm and away from the plantation land for a week on a new sod. Seeds will probably take time to get established. Try using the seed sowed plantation land lightly till 6 months.

3. Maintaining Your Newly Established Healthy and Green Lawn.

Water your lawn deeply, but not regularly. Your healthy lawn will survive with a good health because of the deep roots. So it is necessary that deep should receive the enough water. So water your lawn heavily, but not every day. The suitable time for watering your healthy lawn is either early morning or in late in the evening. Sunlight is also essential to your healthy lawn to acquire the strength in the establishment.

When you find your lawn thick and you feel that it’s the right time for a mowing your lawn, we would recommend you to mow at the highest setting on your mower. Leaving the grass taller in your lawn could benefit them enough to be healthy and disease resistant. Tall grass will also let the growth of the roots and even blocks the weed sprouts.    Leave the mowed grass clippings on the lawn to remain and return the nutrients back to your lawn. Do not mow your lawn within a week after plantation. Roots take time to get established so take good care and handle your mower with care.

 4. Right Fertilizer will help lush your lawn.

Fertilizing your lawn is also an important part of it’s health improvement. Right fertilizers provide good nourishment to your lawn. Be careful about fertilizing your lawn and follow the instructions over the fertilizer packaging. Fertilizers consists of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium in high contents to nourish your lawns. Nitrogen is most important to your lawn and it must be higher in the content than other two. The numbers over the packages of the fertilizers, guide you for the contents of these three. We would recommend you to avoid the fertilizers above grade 10 as they could burn your lawn easily. Organic fertilizers are always preferred as they increase health of the soil as said before.

5. Aerate your lawn.

Try aerating your lawn in the fall or spring as this will help in prevention of diseases and to fight with soil compaction and the thatch buildup. Aeration is necessary for the lawn as it will provide better nourishment and will tend to rise the roots deeply to make your lawn healthy. Aeration will also help to loosen the soil in some content so that the grass will rise freshly.

Aerate while the soil is on the dry of its side and it should be wet enough to allow the plugs to penetrate well.
